SyN sits down with kirsch

Posted by ModeratorSyN at 11:07pm, Saturday 19th July 2008

Today we sit down with MASSIVE Co-Founder, German National Coach and overall nice guy.. kirsch! WE asked him some of the basics and then we dove a little deeper... check out the interview for all the juicy!!

SyN: First up, lets tell the readers the basics… name.. age.. location… how long you’ve been playing csm… etc etc

kirsch: Well my name is Christian im 24 and studying @university ever since and for some time to come. In csm you might know me as kirsch im basically playing that game since season 1 v2, played some seasons v1 but needed to stop then due to army.

SyN: Lets dive right in.. Currently you’re the founder of the #1 (as voted by the CSM community) comm in the game… the national coach for Germany.. and in the final four once again for the Champions League… life in CSM doesn’t seem to get much better for you… where do you see it all heading?

kirsch: Well first of all im just one of the founders actually it where a group of people. But well to come back to your question I don't really see it headin in any direction, right now if no developer come soon I probably gonna quit csm very soon. If however a developer comes soon and if I still can manage to have enough time to play that game. I will most probably continue playing it since I promised to the German folks to bring the NCup home and maybe another goal is to win a cup one day even though that is quite hard. Ohh and well you could say I have unfinished business with on pt member which name I don't really wanna speak out :p But maybe that will be done end of that season.

SyN: You are one of the most controversial members of the entire csm community… from your initial breaking of the “eraser case” to your repeated attacks against the admin team for the decision passed down on that case and everything in between… do you consider yourself the “bad boy” of csm?

kirsch: Good question actually, first of all i don't consider myself as a bad boy, since my objective with all I have done was always do improve the game or at least do something good to it. And I probably got misunderstood by the admin team a lot of times, for example when I "attacked",which btw isn't an attack but an act of showing their fuck-ups to the csm community, I needed to make it crystal clear for every1 and couldn't work with "ohh you do everything so nice but here you could have made a little mistake", simply because it wouldn't been heard otherwise nor would it have been recognized.

Now I admit I might have stepped over the line a few times considering the tone I used but that was simply the frustration speaking out of me. Seeing a game get destroyed simply because admins don't do their job properly is kinda frustrating. I will give you and example firs when I reported that it already some clans involved would have been deleted within the next 14days due to season change. But instead of handling that case as top priority it was been discussed if it should be inspected at all since I reported it... that kinda really got me going in first place. And well we all know how it ended "not guilty, evidence deleted after 5month and a 23-22 vote :P

Well but back to your initial question I see myself not as a badboy at all, but I know change is needed and it wont happen if all stay silent.

SyN: What about the German national team.. in a previous interview with nub janek.. he said your team is the most feared in the comp.. do you feel you will win this years NC (if we ever have it)

kirsch: Haha, yeah when readin that i-view I must admit I was just waiting for janek to state that, the usual "make the others the favorites so that I can be the underdog crap" :D Well All nations have equal teams so it completely depends on the NCs and there are a few that must be taken seriously such as moevil,arcane,feuille,janek,maycry,...etc etc.

So about winning the Nations Cup, It is of course my goal to do so. but with all this equal teams and with a map like dust2 it will always be 75% random. So I don't really have a feeling yet but if everything goes as planned, Germany should win :P

SyN: Moving on to the CL.. you have a very important matchup with Linde coming up.. you just beat him 13-11 but it seems that the match was very close.. have you adjusted your tacts to face him tomorrow and what do you think your chances are of beating him and moving to the finals?

kirsch: Well if theres one manager out there I should name, which I respect the most its Linde, his tactic making ability is awesome, lucky for me he was inactive the last season and just returned to be active again. About the game tomorrow I don't really like to face him a 2nd time on de_dust2 since todays game already had a lot of luck in it and I might not be lucky a 2nd time. But with aztec Lindes and my stronger map it will most certainly a very nice game tomorrow again, hopefully with the luckier ending to me again. And I already worked a little on tactics but im not quite sure what to play yet gonna decide that tomorrow shortly before the game. If I should evaluate my changes I would say its 51-49 for me :>

SyN: Moving on to the finals… IF you beat Linde.. there’s a chance you’ll have to face SpiDevil, your friend from the .pt community. What are your thoughts on facing off against him and do you think Drizzt has a chance of beating him?

kirsch: Haha ye back then those cheat-supporters of him always said "what you cant beat in da field you try to destroy outside" which was ofc pure bullshit since i needed to train my players my self, if you don’t catch my drift i give you 2 words "sergio glauben", so since I was at rebuild I couldn’t meet him back then but now since I for the first season have a fully trained team and a lvl5 leader I can actually take the challenge :> But thats ofc all IF I beat Linde which first needs to happen

SyN: Honestly, since it has to be asked because no one else will… you have obviously voiced some major concerns about the handling of the eraser case… now that it seems to of settled down (although never to be forgotten) and we’ve all had some time to think it over and relax.. Rationally without just talking junk.. what do you think was done wrong in the eraser case and what would you of done differently.

kirsch: So what went wrong? Let me state first "A LOT", but that’s nothing really new, the user base knows it, the admins know it. So let me go a little indepth. First of all you gotta know admins control themselves. they have no kind of higher instance which controls their actions. They also elect themselves; they aren’t elected by others they don’t have any1 to justify too.

So let me raise a basic question " if you are in a shop with your friend and see him stealing e.g. a chocolate bar… would you report him?" Exactly you wouldn't. And that’s what happened in that case even before admins really looked into it they discussed about that and always stated "ohh i cant believe spidevil did this he was our best admin" Well that’s one major step back because how can you investigate a friend properly and with the right motivation??? And best of all he can read what your write about him in the forums. So what first have been done wrong was that there wasn’t a lot of admins willing to take that seriously. And more important Spidevil didn’t get removed his admin rights immediately after he got the "under investigation" status. That’s actually the first i would have done differently.

Later on the inactivity/unwillingness of the admin team to deal with that massive case was just another example of how not to handle such an important case. Since what happened here inflicted the whole game not only the Portuguese scene since the international level users got betrayed by their wins too.

Of couse Jorgo played his part in here too, since it just took him way to long to deliver the info the GA+ cant obtain on their own and then again more evidence was deleted. What could have been done differently here? for example a system which makes it possible to flag users as "under investigation" and a script which prevents the season updates to delete data regarding that team, transfers, mails etc Maybe this idea actually can be implemented in the "near" future with the developer :>

After that recent leak of the whole discussion in the admin forum I could think of some more improvements in the whole system how a case is to be handled. But I guess I already wrote enough here :p

SyN: Final thoughts..

kirsch: CSM probably still is the best online game I ever played, so if we can get a developer one day... and with a few changes, which are necessary to be done, I don’t see why it shouldn’t stay that way :D

And I hope I didn’t bore you all with my answers, if so blame SYN! :p

A big thanks to kirsch for being a sport and talking with us here today! Good luck to his comm and his CL/NC cup bids! :)
